Chapter History

2019
In 2019, a group of members recognized the need to form a chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to serve the communities of Apopka, Ocoee, Winter Garden, and Windermere, FL. Linda Phillips put out a call for sorors residing in the Apopka, FL area and Fannie Walker Brown answered that call immediately. Together, the co-visionaries gathered at the home of Linda Phillips along with eight other sorors that might be interested in chartering a chapter.
The ten members were Linda Phillips, Fannie Walker Brown, Hellen Dennis, Tanya Wilson, Sharyn McGriff, Andrea Floyd, Shirley Simmons, Vaunda Lyles, Nicole Peterson-Musgray, and Talera Thompson. At the conclusion of that meeting, a decision was made to move forward.

2021
May 15, 2021 the interest group was formed.
The name chosen was Cultured Pearls of West Orange County.

2022
Cultured Pearls of West Orange County became Alpha Beta Sigma Omega on June 18, 2022.
There were 30 charter members: Nicola Boothe-Perry, Fannie Walker Brown, Erin Butler, Wendy Cherry, Dayna Dallas, Hellen Dennis, Andrea Floyd, Janet Floyd, Avis Gainey, Sharyn Gaston-McGriff, Valerie Grigley, Carolyn Nesmith, Jasmine Jordan, Jazmyne Longley, Vaunda Lyles, Robin Dakers Lynch, Cherelle Palmer, Lisa Palmer, Nicole Peterson-Musgray, Linda Phillips, Carol Pressey, Monica Saunders, Joni Schofield, Shirley Simmons, Arika Sutton, Talera Thompson, Chrain Walls, Tanya Wilson, Deborah Wright.
Linda Phillips was the chartering President and the first President of the chapter.

2023
Alpha Beta Sigma Omega celebrated their first year of service on June 18, 2023.
